New Kitchen Space
This kitchen renovation was about much more than replacing old cabinets and countertops. The original kitchen felt dated, dark, and separated from the adjoining dining room. Our goal was to completely rethink the space—creating a brighter, more functional layout with better storage, improved access to the outdoors, and plenty of room for everyday living and entertaining.
Creating One Open, Connected Space
One of the biggest changes was removing the wall that separated the kitchen from the dining room. Opening these two spaces completely changed the way the home feels and functions, allowing the kitchen, dining area, and eat-in space to flow together as one large gathering area.
The new oversized island became the centerpiece of the kitchen, providing generous prep space, additional storage, seating for four, and a natural place for family and guests to gather.
Custom Cabinetry & a Dedicated Beverage Station
Rather than limiting cabinetry to the original kitchen footprint, we extended custom cabinetry into the former dining area. A full wall of cabinetry dramatically increased storage while creating a beautiful dedicated bar and beverage station.
Glass-front upper cabinets with interior lighting provide space to display glassware and entertaining pieces, while the cabinetry below offers plenty of concealed storage. Carrying the same cabinetry, countertops, backsplash, and lighting into this area makes it feel like an intentional extension of the kitchen rather than a separate addition.
A Kitchen Designed Around the Details
The new kitchen pairs crisp white cabinetry and countertops with a warm wood island for contrast. A blue herringbone tile backsplash brings color, texture, and personality to the space, extending behind the range and throughout the cabinetry.
Layered lighting was also incorporated throughout the design, including pendant lighting, recessed ceiling lights, under-cabinet lighting, and illuminated glass cabinetry.
More Storage With a New Pantry
A beautiful kitchen also has to work well behind the scenes. As part of the new layout, we created a dedicated pantry to provide additional food and small-appliance storage without taking away from the clean, streamlined appearance of the main kitchen.
The new pantry door was selected to complement the updated interior while giving the homeowners easy access to everyday essentials.
Better Indoor-Outdoor Flow
We also transformed an existing window near the eat-in kitchen area into a new exterior door leading directly to the patio. This relatively small architectural change made a big difference, bringing additional functionality to the space and creating a much more natural connection between the kitchen and outdoor living areas.
It’s especially convenient for entertaining, grilling, dining outside, or simply moving between the kitchen and backyard.
Updated Hardwood Floors Bring It All Together
With the kitchen and dining room now functioning as one continuous space, the flooring needed to feel continuous as well. The hardwood floors were updated throughout the renovated area, helping visually connect the different zones and providing a warm foundation for the white cabinetry, blue accents, and natural wood tones.
A Kitchen Built for the Way This Family Lives Today
This renovation is a great example of what can happen when you look beyond the existing footprint. By removing a wall, expanding cabinetry into the dining area, adding a pantry, improving patio access, updating the hardwood floors, and completely redesigning the kitchen, we were able to turn a dated and divided space into a bright, open home designed for cooking, gathering, and entertaining.
